Since today was a rest day, I didnt want to get my heart rate above LT. So the plan was to go for a quick ride to Dahlonega, grab a coffee and ride back. Maybe 30-40km total.
I decided to stop by Dahlonega Wheelworks which is the go to LBS in the area. It has to be one of the coolest shops I've been to. Mostly because every other bike is spec'd with Campy Super Record, and because they have a well stocked Beer fridge. Jon, the owner, is super laid back and always has plenty of interesting information on the cycling happenings in the area. If you're ever in Dahlonega, it is a must go destination.
The plan was just to say hi, and carry on my way.. however there was a group ride leaving in 5 minutes. I was initially reluctant to go out on a ride with people who ride 3000ft of climbing everyday, but i bit the bullet and went for it.
Luckily it was a rest day for the other two guys who decided to show. One guy was a CX racer from the area, and the other was a local rider/regular customer at the shop.
We went through what I estimate to be a 50km route with gorgeous rolling roads on the foothills. We were all on the same page in terms of training..so it was an easy ride at a chatty pace. It was fun to ride at an aerobic pace for a change.
Tomorrow is our final day here, and its supposed to be 16 degrees and sunny. Perfect day for a century if you ask me.
