As I mentioned in my last post, Ive decided to salvage some fitness from the summer. One last hurrah before the snow sets in.
On Saturday I was DJ'ing until 4am so I was a little skeptical about how that would affect the numbers, however on Sunday I felt ok, so I ate a decent lunch, drank alot of water and prepped for the ride.
It was pretty cool and damp... a sure sign that summer was over. The route would be my typical benchmark route. Approximately 45k with some punchy climbs and rollers. I warmed up for about 30 minutes doing some tempo and jumps to get my HR up. Then it was off to the benchmarks.
I expected my 1 minute interval figure to be really low since I havent done anything resembling a 1 minute interval in awhile. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my 1 minute power was up where it was in the summer. Only 10 watts shy of my best 1min total.
My 5 minute power was lower though, notably my endurance. I started off my interval at my regular output, but could only maintain it for a couple minutes. I hope this rebounds quickly.
Ive decided to go for the 'fun but hard' training method for the rest of the season. Rides have to be hard enough to improve, but they have to be fun. No more structure. Structure is boring.
